Project Scope
Graycor Industrial performed a reline of D Blast Furnace at the steelmaker’s facility in Burns Harbor, Indiana. The project, which included an 80-day outage, involved installing new gas systems and a new hot blast system, as well as relining the No. 1 stove and D blast furnace. Additional work included performing top equipment change and replacing all cooling water, hydraulics and utility piping, as well as replacing the slag pit concrete walls and flooring.
Challenges on the project – all successfully handled by Graycor project management team – included coordinating the work areas that involve multiple crafts and mobile equipment such as cranes and man-lifts, all within the vertical environment of the blast furnace.
Graycor Industrial’s self-performance work on the project involved pipefitters, laborers, bricklayers, ironworkers, carpenters, operators, Teamsters, millwrights, cement finishers and pre-outage boilermaker work.
