Project Scope

Graycor completed installation of the world’s largest electric arc furnace at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co.’s facility in Sterling, Illinois. To complete mechanical work on the 415-ton capacity, No. 8 steelmaking furnace, Graycor assembled furnace components outside the facility and utilized a 400-ton overhead crane to install major components in single lifts.

The installation represented Graycor’s second assignment for Northwestern Steel and Wire. Previously, Graycor completed 14-inch mill furnace refractory repairs at the Sterling facility.
