Project Scope

The Louis Rich Company, a subsidiary of Oscar Mayer, selected Graycor to construct the manufacturer’s new 450,000-square-foot turkey processing facility. The project called for building a satellite plant to process 8 million turkeys a year, as well as performing site improvements for the 60-acre parcel. Also included was installation of an extensive refrigeration system coupled with meticulous concrete, insulation and electrical systems. Interior construction covered a 10-acre area within the building shell.

Dealing with the winter’s elements during construction proved a particular challenge, which was met by the team erecting extensive temporary exterior protection early in the project. Concrete pours, therefore, took place without interrupting the schedule. Within the first several months of the project, construction peaked at 200 to 250 workers.
