Project Scope

Graycor completed a repositioning of the Randhurst Shopping Center in a north suburb of Chicago. The project included demolition of three vacant anchor stores and construction of a new grand entrance, site work and pad preparation for a new Costco store.

When built in 1964, Randhurst Shopping Center was said to be the world’s largest indoor shopping center with 1 million square feet of retail space including three department stores. When Urban Retail Properties began managing the center in 2002, redevelopment was desperately needed: the center contained two vacant department stores, a third department store was about to go out of business and many shop tenants were struggling.

Graycor’s repositioning of the center included a partial de-mall, placement of a Costco store, improvements to the entryways, new exterior graphics and signage, improvements to the interior, and many amenity enhancements. In addition, the contract included construction of a new public restroom facility, new support and installation of a center court carousel, and site graphics and signage.
