McGladrey called on Graycor Construction for multi-floor renovations to their Chicago headquarters at One South Wacker. Renovations to the fifth and eighth floors of the 40-story building required more than just skill with interior renovations, but also a comprehensive understanding of scheduling around multiple challenges.

Maintaining the schedule and effective communication were essential. Not only was it important for the offices’ operations to run as smoothly and as safely as possible in the construction environment, but also work progress was dependent upon coordination with building management. The elevator and dock deliveries required advance notice of 48-hours and the fire alarm and sprinkler system had to be tied to the building’s system. Experienced with working in the majestic skyscrapers located in Chicago’s Loop, Graycor coordinated the renovations in phases.

The 16,000-square-foot renovation included partitions, painting, new flooring, lighting and setup of owner furnished office furniture, complete with electrical and data connections at all stations. Most work was completed on the second shift. Working in phases, the west half of each floor was completed first, then occupants were moved from east to west for the completion of the east half.
